Usually, I think schools accept it and try to help. (They might not be much help, but they do try).

I think it also depends how old you are- my school knows about my self harm but I'm 16 so they aren't telling my parents, if that's what you're worrying about.

Although I must admit, the school has a duty of care so they will do everything to get you help- making doctors appointments or making appointments with councellors who visit the school etc.

And if you don't accept the help they might tell your parents, I'm not sure- all schools are different.

In my experience though, having the school knowing has been okay. Well, my teacher said on Monday she could just throw me out seeing as I'm 16 but I think she was trying to make me accept help. Because they know, it's easier to hide scars- they can tell your teachers to let you wear long sleeves or tracksuit bottoms in pe and stuff.

You shouldn't worry about them knowing :) It can be a positive thing :)

aww sweetie, d way u reacted was very good coz u made it look like he was an idiot insted of letin urself b hurt by him.

if the school find out u can always deny it but u must make sure there are  no scars wen u do. if they persist in trying 2 make u talk just tel dem it was a one off and it wont happen again.

one of my friends know's because she kept asking me why i was not with it . i think today was the worst tbh.urmm soi told her and she says she wonts me to talk to someone.

i dont know if i'm ready yet though :S

tbh the best thing to do is to stop self harming you get nothing out of it  it dosent take the pain away it just makes things worst !!! x

ashflo i understand what your saying infact it is great advice but the problem i find is i wish it were that easy to stop however for me i feel it does get rid of the pain .i'm sorry that it was probley not what you wanted to hear but i want to be truthful.but you do give great advice.

If your friend knows, you have someone to support you, no? And if you're not ready to talk about it, then don't, you will be ready one day :) And when you are, you will get help. Just try to help yourself too, and try to control your self harm by not doing it every time you get the urge :)

Don't worry, i have been self harming for about a year and my school has known about it for most of that time. My guidence teacher has regular meetings with me and although sometimes they can be annoying, it can sometimes help if i want to talk.

I am 14 and i asked her not to tell my parents and so far she hasn't. However, bare in mind that if you do something serious they HAVE to tell coz they have some duty of care thingy going on!!!!!

So basically, you may even want to tell the school, but if you don't thats fine, but don't worry about it they will only want to help.
