in school there is a group of  funny girls who are my friends, they're always joking about different things and have kinda got some wannabe hangers on, one day they were pretending to be emo (i do not mean this offensively, they were only messing) and saying they were gunna slit their wrists, but they were obviously only joking then the next day one of their hangers on had slit her wrists! I tryed to confront the girl about how she shouldn't self harm but then she got all defensive and angry and dug her nails into my arm and told me to tell no one!!!!!! it was scary

This sounds quite a scary experience for you. How did you confront her? Maybe she felt threatened by what you knew and if you just told her to stop, she might have resisted. Just a quick question; do you self-harm? If you do then you'll understand how difficult it is to stop.

For me, I will ask the person if they are okay (even though obviously they aren't) and tell them that if they need to talk, I'm there. Mostly people won't approach after that and so I will just keep smiling at them and taking an interest in how they are, eventually they will open up. But then, don't take all her problems upon yourself because at the end of the day it is her life. If she is really, really seriously self-injuring then tell a teacher but if you self-harm, maybe this is something you and her can help each other work through.

    Look after yourself.
