Hi there,
It can be really hard when you have a close friend but it feels like your relationship is changing and you’re drifting apart.
Friends should be people who you can have fun with and who are supportive. Friends shouldn’t bully you or make you feel down. Friendships can have their ups and downs and sometimes talking about how you’re feeling when it seems to be going through a difficult patch can help.
Maybe take some time to think about what you feel is a good friend and whether this friend is someone who matches up to that or not. This might help you to decide whether you’d like to continue trying to be friends and whether you have other people in your life who are perhaps better friends.
If it starts to feel like you’re being bullied then it can help to have a think about whether there are any adults you trust that you could talk to about what’s happening. You may also like to take a look at the friends and bullying pages for some more information and ideas.
When you make a lot of effort with someone and it doesn’t feel like they’re doing the same in return it can feel really disappointing. But remember it’s always a kind thing to try and make new people feel welcome at school.
If you’d like to talk through any of this some more you’re always welcome to speak to one of our counsellors.
Take care,
Sam
