It’s really difficult to feel like you have an addiction. Especially if it’s having a big impact on your life. When you’re feeling addicted to something, whatever that might be, it can help to think about what it is you feel you get from it. It could be physical or emotional. Also have a think about the impact that it's having on you and others you care about.
Sometimes thinking through and trying to understand more where these feelings come from can be the first step in finding ways to change things. Be really clear in your mind about why you don’t want to behave in that way, so that you can remind yourself of it when you gets urges to do anything you may regret afterwards.
It’s also important to think about the impact this is having on your relationship. If your girlfriend feels like you’re using her, then it seems like you could try focussing on other ways to show her that you love her. A good first step could be to find out what she likes most about your relationship and starting there.
No addiction is easy to beat. But there is support and help out there. A doctor would be able to tell you whether what you have an addiction, and what support is available in your area. Sometimes people can find it embarrassing or difficult to talk to a doctor, but it’s important to remember they’re there to support you and they will have heard about all kinds of problems that people have before.
