If things get really bad all of a sudden, it’s good to know what to do. The person you’re supporting might get worse and not take their medication. Or they might get angry or upset with things. It’s really useful to have a plan to help you if this ever happens.
Each situation is different. So the emergency plan could depend on the mental health problem your family member is going through. You could talk to a Childline counsellor – they can help you think about your emergency plan, just in case you ever need it.
Your emergency plan might include telling a neighbour, if you know and trust them. It’s also good to think of an adult you could call in an emergency. That could be another adult in your family. Or a teacher. It might be a nurse or carer, if the person you live with has one. It’s good to think of who the right person is and make sure you have their phone number.
